Skirts for my girls - Made by me

Image
I have not been sewing much for my children ever since I am hooked on patchwork and english paper piercing. I have lots of fabrics ready to be cut and sewn by my sewing machine. 2015 will be different as I hope to sew more for them. I bought 2 sewing books, waiting for me to cut out the patterns. Even Big E was impressed by the dress that I planned to sew.

I am decluttering and organising my workspace these days and could not wait to start sewing in an organised environment. I know it will be messy again, soon (this is for sure.).

I brought Big E to Sing Mui Heng to buy some fabrics. She saw this fabric from Ann Kelle's Girlfriend Fairy Princess and requested me to sew something for her. This is so cute and I love Ann Kelle's design too.

I decided to sew a simple skirt for each of them which took me a day to finish. I also added a red embroidery lace at the bottom of the skirt to beautify. Big E loves to wear this at every opportunity she has. I am over the moon.

December Artistic Trading Card - Using Yo-yo

Image
This was the last ATC that I made in the year 2014. The theme was mixed media hosted by Choon Bin. I was a bit scared to participate as I have no idea how to design one. After explanations by the hostess and organiser, somewhat I had an idea what to do.

I used my Ikea fabric stash from my fabric stash basket and made some tiny yo-yos. Aren't they cute? I think yo-yos are cute. I should sew more colours to decorate my patchwork projects. :) I layed out into a mini Christmas tree, perfect for the occasion.

Below were the ATCs from my group.

For 2015, I might not participate in all the ATC swap as I want to focus on my patchwork. However, if you are keen to do an individual swap (international welcome), you can email me at joeycraftworkz@yahoo.com.

Handsewpatchwork Sew-a-long Block 16 - The Pot

Image
I am definately hooked on handsewpatchwork (I must have said many times!) Even though the preparation work is tedious and time consuming, the satisfaction of the finished piece is hard to describe. It is even better than scrapbooking. I dare say for myself.

The other day, I went to a local scrapbook store and walked one round as they were having sales. I came out empty handed. Did it mean that I stop scrapbooking altogether? I guess I have too many papers, dies templates, tools and emblishments that I don't know what else to buy. The recent CHA 2015 show did not spurred me to buy too. I still make artistic trading cards and participate in swaps.

Block 16 - The Pot was quite easy to sew, except for the handle which needed to sew like an applique. You can download the template via ZakkaArt. I am happy to learn from Wynn that there will be 2 bonus blocks - 17 and 18. I wonder what will they be.

The white and red background is from Riley Blake's collection. It was my first such…

Handsewpatchwork Sew-a-long Block 15 - Peter's Paint Box

Image
Block 15 - Peter's Paint Box will be the second last block for the handsewpatchwork sew-a-long. I never knew I did all faithfully and concurred my fear of handsewing. I relied on my sewing machine more in the past. But now, I can handsew my blocks or hexagons english paper piercing (epp) when the kids are asleep or when I wanted to watch TV or if I were lazy to switch on my Singer machine.

Thanks to Instagram, it opened my world to patchwork, handsewing and epp from around the world. I started to participate in more sew-a-longs and made more stuff that I never tried before. (Follow me at @joeycraftworkz in Instagram to find out what I am up to if you are keen.)

Block 15 was fairly easy even though I had to recut some of the pieces. No funny curves, just sew on straight lines. You had to flip the template before you drew onto the fabric and cut especially for the blue pieces. There are no issues on the other pieces. You can download the template via ZakkaArt.

Happy New Year - Ushering to 2015

Image
Happy New Year!!!

Yeah, I stayed up the night to welcome 2015 even though I am very tired. I managed to finish my 6th red dresden plate before midnight. Here are all my dresden plates. Which one is your favourite?

I handsewed them with my scraps using English Paper Piercing method, measured 4 inch across and about 1 3/4inch length per plate. I will definately be sewing more in 2015. Different colours perhaps. Any suggestions? Purple? Brown?

As for my sewing resolution for the new year, I planned to:
1. Handsew more, now that I am more confident.
2. Sew more hexagons, that is my all time favourite.
3. Participate in more Instagram sew-a-long.
4. Try out quilt-as-you-go.
5. Sew more kids cloths, just bought 2 books for kids cloths.
6. Design more items for sale.

As for homelearning, I planned to:
1. Do more crafts with them.
2. Start to be more aggressive in home teaching, means more homework.

As for scrapbooking, I planned to:
1. Catch up on my project life 2014 - I am still backdated …
