NHK Sutekini Handmade - Atsuko Matsuyama Monthly quilt "Fruit Fantasy" Sew A-Long Block 5 & 6 - Fruits Applique and Flowers patchwork (NHKテレビテキスト すてきにハンドメイド 松山敦子のマンスリーキルト「フルーツ・ファンタジー」)

It is the last day of 2015!!

Before I say goodbye in another few hours, I want to share with you the 2 blocks that I managed to finish this afternoon inside the 2015 Issue 12 NHKテレビテキスト すてきにハンドメイ.

I love this patchwork pattern of block 5 and would love to sew up more to make a mini quilt. It is called Greek Cross. There were only 4 templates to cut but lots of pieces to make one block.

Frankly, block 6 is a challenge to me once again as it is a fruit basket applique. There are 31 pieces to iron and sew onto the background cloth. But I still love the outcome of my handsewn piece.

Pretty tedious from the look of it. I took about 2 days to finish this applique block. But the result is so kawaii.

This will be the last piece of my work for 2015. Moving on to 2016, I will definitely be sewing more and more and catch up on my WIPs.

Wish everyone a Happy 2016!!

StickerKid Review and Discount Code

(Sponsored Review)

Another school term is fast approaching and I am always busy writing or printing labels from my Label Machine for my children in December.

This time, I beg to differ in my approach.

StickerKid has offered us some personalised labels from their value pack to try out. That includes shoe labels, iron on labels and small stickers.

Manufactured from Switzerland since 2004, every label is protected with a thin plastic layer. This is good as I am not afraid of my children damaging the labels with their hands wet or water spilling from their water bottles. Not only that, they survive microwaves, dishwashers, sun and sand.

Other reasons why I choose StickerKid:

1. Restickable stickers
When my child pasted the stickers at the wrong page or clumsily, I can always tear out and restick them with no tape residue left on the initial pasting.

2. Fast shipment
The orders were processed quickly and shipped out fast. I received them in a week.

3. Friendly customer service officer

NHK Sutekini Handmade - Atsuko Matsuyama Monthly quilt "Fruit Fantasy" Sew A-Long Block 3 & 4 - Fruits Applique and Flowers patchwork (NHKテレビテキスト すてきにハンドメイド 松山敦子のマンスリーキルト「フルーツ・ファンタジー」)

I am slightly late to complete the Block 3 and 4 - Fruits applique and flowers patchwork, for the November sew-a-long by Atsuko Matsuyama  - 松山敦子のマンスリーキルト「フルーツ・ファンタジー」.

The instructions and templates can be found in this magazine which I bought from Kinokuniya bookshop. Thanks to my Japanese counterpart who posted photos in their instagram account on every issue they bought. I quickly rushed to my local shop and purchase a copy.

There are not many blocks to sew but definately lots of fruits applique to practise. There are 4 of them which I like the pear the best!

After finishing the applique, I combined them according to the example found in the magazine.

Which applique do you like?

November sew along is quite easy to sew after many practises of sewing the appliques. For December issue, there will be more blocks and more applique that I will share with you in the next coming post.

Happy weekend!

30's reproduction Casual Patchwork Weekend Bag

Last month, I chanced upon a fabric detashing sale at Instagram. Even though the images of each fabric is too small for my eyes to see, overall, they looked pretty and I fell in love with the 30's reproduction fabrics. It is not easy to find them in Singapore shops and I have to look elsewhere online. Reproduction fabrics give me a vintage and cottage feel. I just love it and definitely will be searching for more to stock up.

I began to fuzzy cut the fabrics I bought intro trapezium sizes. I hand sewed them in pairs after arranging by colours.

Then I stitched them in rows and sewed them up together into one big piece of patchwork.

Next step, I batted and topstitched with Gutermann threads. Then I trimmed into the size I needed.

I added a leather label at the bottom of the bag that I am going to make. It looked pretty with the label.

Subsequently, I sewed up into a casual patchwork weekend bag.

I love this retro bag and have listed it up for sale in my Etsy shop here if you are int…

NHK Sutekini Handmade - Atsuko Matsuyama Monthly quilt "Fruit Fantasy" Sew A-Long Block 2 - Cherry Applique (NHKテレビテキスト すてきにハンドメイド 松山敦子のマンスリーキルト「フルーツ・ファンタジー」)

Today, I will be sharing with you the Block 2 of the recent Atsuko Matsuyama Monthly quilt sew-a-long which is the Cherry Applique. I have not done a single applique before as I also feel scared to sew one. To me, it takes a lot of handsewing skills to sew up a applique on a cloth. In fact, I have never use a machine to sew up one too.

This time, I took up a personal challenge to try on one.

I traced all the parts onto a freezer paper which I bought one box at Cold Storage at Kallang Leisure mall (next to Stadium MRT station). I cut them up and ironed on the right side of the fabrics that I am going to use. I cut the fabric about 3cm from the border of the freezer paper template before I sew. I used the same coloured thread as the fabric used so that it will look neat on the side.

To be frank, my hands were shaky but then I could always unstitched if it was done poorly. With more practises, I managed to overcome the fear and finished all the parts before I embroider. I used 2 strands …

NHK Sutekini Handmade - Atsuko Matsuyama Monthly quilt "Fruit Fantasy" Sew A-Long (NHKテレビテキスト すてきにハンドメイド 松山敦子のマンスリーキルト「フルーツ・ファンタジー」)

Instagram is my most frequently used mobile apps that I love to use during my free time. I like to take a snapshot of my current and finished projects and uploaded there, in addition to searching interesting patchwork hashtags to get inspirations and knew like-minded sewists. Sadly, nowadays, there are sponsored posts appearing in Instagram which I do not really like especially not related to my interest.

Recently, I chanced upon a Japanese magazine monthly handsew-along activity (SAL) in Instagram. I tried to ask but I could not communicate in Japanese. Luckily one Instagram user can speak English and she has directed me to this magazine for the SAL. I was so happy that my local Kinokuniya main store sells this monthly magazine.

Actually, there isn't much patchwork or quilting as compared to the magazine on the left. There are more crocheting and dress making. There is an enclosed actual size of the templates of the tutorials in the magazine. I like it so much!

This Atsuko Matsuy…
