Cashew Festive Fair

Image
On 18 Dec, I participated in Cashew Festive Fair, held at Bukit Panjang housing estate. It was organised by Homemart Square and Cashew Zone 2 RC. It was quite fun for me as it was my first to sell my handmade stuff there.

I made my way there at about 8.30am. Due to the stoppage of the train for maintenance and tests in the morning, I had to take a bus to the interchange and took a bus down there. The bus was very crowded. I was carrying my faithful IKEA bag with my trolley. Luckily I had a seat on the bus.

I setup my booth at a cozy area.

The event started at 10am. Besides my handmades, I have also prepared some owl signages for the art and craft workshop. It was my first time participating in an art and craft workshops for kids. For a start, I have two little boys who were interested in making them. Teaching kids were so refreshing and fun! I had one girl who kept calling me "teacher teacher". So cute!

Though there were occasional rains, which started and stopped many times,…

Animal design Tissue Cover Packs for Sale

Image
Today is DongZhi festival or Winter Solstice festival. We, especially the Chinese, treated this day as important as the Lunar New Year. This is a day where all family members gathered together to celebrate and eat the Tang Yuan or balls of glutinuous rice which symbolise reunion. It is quite easy to remember. It is 3 days before Christmas.

We will be celebrating this occasion at my grandmother's house, where all my aunts and uncles, cousins, relatives will gather. How will you be celebrating yours?

I made these two animal design tissue cover pack for sale. One is a cat and the other an elephant.

Post the Giveaway Prize

Image
The Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway contest was just over. There were 535 giveaways in total all over the world. WOW! That was amazing! There were people, giving away fabrics, other handmade items, etc. Now, I am thinking hard what to give for the next giveaway. Any ideas that you would recommend?

I have contacted Paula, the winner for the Santa Drawstring bag. I did not expect to send my prize all the way to Lisbon. Guess it was the thrill that had me excited to participate in this event.

Paula has her own Etsy shop here, selling Christmas Ornaments in fabric and felt. All are handmade. They are nice and beautiful.

Just hope she will get it by year end. :)

A pleasant surprise

Image
This week is a crazy week for me. I have been cutting fabric, sewing, ironing and packaging non-stop. Not forgetting the two fleas I went over the weekend. I am physically exhausted, but it is a totally new experience compared to working in an office. At this time, it was a lull period then. I remembered shopping and eating with colleagues and friends. Hee.

Thanks to my hubby who was diligently helping me to cut the Christmas Tags, which I gave one to each item sold. This will save my customers to buy one outside.

I met up with one of my customer, Hwee Mei to deliver the items to her yesterday. We chatted and realised she is a friend of my hubby's friend. The world is small eh? To my surprise, she gave me a box of biscuit curls from Marks and Spencer as an appreciation. It was soooo nice of her. I consider it as my first Christmas present. :)

I shall update the blog on the last two fleas soon. Time for dinner now. :) (This biscuit curls photo made me hungry.)

And the winner for the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway goes to...

Image
First of all, I want to thank all who participated in my giveaway at Sew, Mama, Sew. It was a terrific experience for me and I have received lots of feedback on my creations. Lots of people love owls, including me. I feel great!

And the winner for the giveaway goes to....

Paula, who commented:

Product Quote: Red Xmas Owl. Thanks for the giveaway.

Congratulations Paula. You will be receiving an email from me, requesting for your mailing address.

Hope all of you had fun. I did. :)

MAAD event @Red Dot Museum - 9 Dec 2011

Image
Hi Everyone,
Finally I have the time to update my blog on the recent MAAD event held last friday at Red Dot Museum. (I was resting and fulfilling some orders.) I was situated outside the museum, along Maxwell Road. I picked a spot which was just in front of the traffic lights, opposite Ministry of National Development building.

On my way to the museum, I took a cab there (I had two big bags.). During the journey, I chatted with the driver and discovered he used to participate in fleas as well. He shared some business tips and places that I can try out to sell my stuff. Quite interesting!

I reached the place at about 3.45pm (reporting was 4pm). It was drizzling and I was demoralised as I did not know if I can still setup outside or will the organiser move us inside. While waiting inside the hall, I chatted with a crafter who was alone. Her name is Jael. She is a visual artist (I took a picture with her, do read on.). We helped each other to setup our booths outside. I told her we shoul…

Russian Dolls Zipper Card Case for sale

Image
I like Russian Dolls, or you can also called them matryoshka dolls. They are in various sizes in which the big one will contain the small one, and so on. So interesting, which made me wonder if there is another one, and another one after opening the outer doll.

Of course, not forgetting, fabrics and stamps! I found interesting fabrics online and decided to do some card case. As for stamps, I have some rubber stamps and embossing folders and always on the look out for more, which is not easy.

Will be bringing these to MAAD tomorrow.

Participating in MAAD - 9 Dec 2011

Image
Yes, it is confirmed. I will be participating and set up a booth at the MAAD.

MAAD is the Market of Artists and Designers in Singapore. They organise a monthly Friday night celebration, showcasing original handmades and crafts for sale, have live performances, exhibitions and photography services.

I will be setting my stall outside Red Dot Museum, along Maxwell Road (nearest MRT station is Tanjong Pagar) on friday between 5pm to 12midnight with the other crafters. So you will definately be able to find something over there, even if it is not from my stall (of course, hopefully you can drop by and support me, hee). It is the best time to start shopping for Christmas gifts. I will also be scouting around to find good buys. Please support local crafters, ya?

Oh I almost forgot, they are serving chilled Heineken Beer (and nachos) right inside the museum at artery's makeshift bar with live music performance curated by Patrick Chng & Andy Yang.

It will be my first and I hope to see…

Flea Market at myvillage @Serangoon Garden

Image
Hi everyone,
I just did my maiden flea market at myvillage @Serangoon Garden last sunday. It was an eye-opener and I had many catchups with my long-lost friends and new customers.

All thanks to Ai Yen, my scrapbooking classmate, who introduced me to this flea market. I co-shared a booth with her. While passing time, we talked about our kids, business and scrapbook materials buys. It was an enjoyable afternoon.

My first customer and old friend came by to support me. He bought a Gingerbread Man cushion.

Then next, with the Mok sisters, Michelle and Marilyn. We have not met for more than 15 years!

One of my best friends and her hubby came to support me too.

To end the day, we went to Chomp Chomp to have a sumptuous dinner. 3 of us ordered 7 dishes, comprising of satay, carrot cake, hokkien mee, oyster omelette, bbq stingray, chicken wings, satay beehoon and sugar cane juice. We loved the junkiness but who cared.  We just loved the Singapore food and the company.

Till then, I shall upda…
